The Eight of Cups Reversed: What Does It Mean?

Sharing is caring!

The Eight of Cups reversed is a strong representation of returning home to our authentic selves.

Often we feel out of attunement and struggle to ground ourselves. This tarot card is our returning home.

The Eight of Cups Reversed

We are creatures of instinct. We know when we’re feeling “off” and need to find our way back. Perhaps you’ve made a journey before that made you retreat just months later.

The Eight of Cups Reversed meaning

Things can get crazy in any journey. Whether that’s moving to a new place, a new job or new relationship. What’s most important is that we trust ourselves through this unfoldment.

Burdens and restrictions are there to test us, but we also cannot let them hold us for too long. In the dark of the night we can await the new dawn which soon rises.

Card analysis

Why do we provide such a definition? We’ve analyzed The Eight of Cups Reversed using the Rider Waite series of tarot cards, though you are free to use any that you prefer.

Psychic reading of The Eight of Cups Reversed

Similar to The Hermit reversed, we see a man on this card who is walking towards the sea. Something doesn’t quite feel right! Eventually, after much longing, he realized that he wasn’t living in authenticity.

Essentially – we need to be true to ourself. Those in the yoga community know this all too well as it’s often mentioned during savasana – the very last sequence of yoga poses.

On this card we also see the moon which eclipses the sun. For much of his journey, he’s been ignoring the thoughts on the right path forward. He thought he had this “figured out” but now he has to recalibrate.

Then finally, once returning to his authentic self, he can see the light. From within, he has the depth to grow stronger and the knowledge to power through bigger challenges that come on the horizon.

Trust your instincts

Intuition is key in the divine healing journey. We can ignore it, but like a child, it cannot be ignored for too long. If you are feeling powerless, then trust your instincts and intuition.

While our ego loves to get in our way, our insticts are the best guide for the path forward. The Eight of Cups reversed is a solid reminder. The very essence that you are choosing tarot means that you are more instinct-drawn than ego-drawn.

Why should we trust our intuition? Unlike our conscious mind, there is no conditioning or barriers. Society hasn’t beaten it down or created logic or rationality. Instead, it’s free to show us the path forward.

That path can be anything. It could lead you to manifest greater good for yourself and for the planet, if you’ll just let it. This is where deep healing can commence, or at the very least, conscious atunement towards your definite life’s work.

Your call

Are you ready to return to your true self? The one that you’ve been hiding from all these lean years? We can strip the baggage and return to the essence of who we really are.

Many people are in the state of denial. They say things like “I’m exactly where I need to be!” and indeed, that’s actually true for some people. Yet others feel this inner child-like calling.

It’s your call today. You can decide to answer it or simply ignore it.

Going forward

To be real in this new age world is fast becoming a rarity. Social media has inflicted upon us a way of how things “ought to be” instead of how they should be.

Tarot card representation

Things should return to our truth. We’re here to manifest what the beautiful universe has to offer, if we open ourselves to return home.
