The Hierophant Upright Tarot: What Does It Mean?

Sharing is caring!

The Hierophant upright tarot card represents the need to stick to our traditions and avoid the temptations that other beliefs hold.

Essentially, there is power to sticking to what has been known for thousands of years.

The Hierophant Upright Tarot

Often others try to sway us in another direction. They use tricks, bait and candy to snap up our attention. They may promise a better future or make you question your own beliefs.

The Hierophant Upright Tarot meaning

Ultimately, there is a desire to swing you away from what you believe in. You’re welcome to become open to new possibilities, and we believe that you probably have the tools, ideas and strategies to make up your own mind.

Many might shun confirmity in the digital age, but such ancient wisdom and spiritual beliefs are to be respected. After all – they built this world and will help us navigate the challenges which lay before us.

Card meaning

The Heirophant Upright is a ‘No’ Tarot card in the Major Arcana. We have conducted our reading using the Rider Waite tarot cards.

Tarot card reading of The Hierophant Upright Tarot

We see The Heirophant as a religious and masculine figure who holds a high posiiton of power in a religious setting. He is known as a Teacher, Master, Guru, Saint, Pope or Priest and the type that others respect and follow closely.

With two fingers up, his means ascension towards higher power and purpose. The other two fingers represent the need to be grounded and avoid the temptation to always be away ‘in the clouds’.

He speaks to a group of people and those that are ready to hear this message. They will confirm and remain in their traditional ways as their firm beliefs guide them forward. Others cannot sway them and their presence on this tarot card represents their certainty in their leader.

As with any good leader, he desires to pass down his wisdom, knowledge and understanding of the new world. One where harmony and balance is found and where wisdom is truly found in knowledge.

This can only be acquired through devotion. Instead of jumping from one concept or idea to the next, it’s best to stick to what we know and remain fixated until completion.

Staying conventional

The world offers so many new belief systems and structures today like never before. There are also those romanticising new movements and beliefs that counteract each other, with many claiming to be ‘better’ than the rest.

It’s during these times of chaos that it can be a very wise idea to remain conventional. While you can have an open mind to understand opposing views, you should avoid the temptation for what the ‘greener side’ may or may not offer. After all, if your beliefs are already serving you – then why switch?

You may wish to find others to help you deepen your practice today. This could be through finding a spiritual mentor or religious coach to help you along, much like what is depicted in The Hierophant Upright. Large groups and congregations are another great option as you can identify yourself with others that can help you further develop your understanding.

For the introverts, you might wish to remain with daily practices of gratitude and prayer. Even saying grace before a meal or utilizing books or training videos to go deeper on your quest.

Avoid those where things don’t quite feel right. Some have taken ancient teachings and adapted them to modern-day times. Some do have their heart and soul in the right place, while some don’t. You’ll soon discover if it truly feels right.

In a nutshell

Society often tells us to challenge our beliefs. For us – we recommend that you cherish them. Less and fewer people today are both with a religious or spiritual grounding and grow up without any real understanding.

It’s in this place that we find structure, understanding and connection. This can be with God or ourselves. It’s through this that we can ascend deeper and eventually become a Master of wisdom without improvisation.

Stick to the long-held spiritual beliefs and values, provided they are working for you. There is no need to find alternatives!
