The King of Cups Reversed: What Does It Mean?

Sharing is caring!

Ah! You’ve picked up the King of Cups reversed tarot card. This is a clear message to get your house in order, just as he clearly has.

The King of Cups Reversed

Life is challenging. Many of us struggle, yet there are a few who relentlessly pursue achievement. Whether that’s career, business, finances, family or freedom – there is a small group of people do achieve life mastery. One such example is the king.

The King of Cups Reversed meaning

He’s at peace. He’s worked his way up over many years after experiencing many roller coasters. From this, he’s only become a stronger version of himself. Nothing to prove. That’s why he’s admired by many, even the critics.

If he could speak, he’d say “Focus your power on what you can achieve, not the things that you can’t control. You always have a choice!” – and indeed, he’s right.

Our physical world provides us with immense opportunities and choice of thoughts.

You’re sinking

Our emotions are powerful. Those same emotions can float us to the heavenly clouds or sink us to the depths of the oceans. This polarization is energy at its finest, with results being positive or negative through conscious manifestation.

So then – which one will you choose? Hopefully the opposite of what most others choose.

Happiness, abundance, joy, love and admiration are all qualities of those who strive for more. If you’re looking to manifest through the Law of Attraction, then it’s wise to keep our thoughts into flow, not constraint.

Analyzing the card

Let’s have a good look at this card. Can you see the two symbols? We’re using the Rider-Waite series for this King of Cups

Tarot reading of The King of Cups Reversed

We see a ship firstly. Ships are wonderful inventions. Just imagine the feat of crossing oceans in years prior. The challenge of water crossings was thought of as an opportunity, not a constraint.

Secondly, there is a whale. They go deep into the ocean often for hours before resurfacing. In such depths, they have old energy that needs to be released. When they surface, this is exactly what happens.

Now – what does this have to do with the king? Fair question, but it’s quite easy. The King has achieved mastery and now sits above the roar and violence of the waves. Call that resilience if you will, but he’s not ruled by external forces.

He’s able to focus on those goals. Those things he wanted to achieve in his youthful days. And you know what? He achieved everything and (likely) a whole lot more.

The King of Cups reversed is a solid reminder of our daily choice. We can sink or swim. As humans, we are emotional beings. Perhaps we’re holding on to baggage. Challenges from the past. You know – those emotional scars that bog us down.

How would the King handle this? He makes peace. He forgives himself as well as the instigators. He’s moved on from being the victim because he wanted to be the ruler. Except in this instance, one that those who respect and admiration.

He’s the kind-hearted individual you’ve met before. Those old souls you can trust. Maybe you’ve met someone at a psychic fair, at a yoga class or a spiritual workshop.

The King is there as an example of what’s possible and he’s opening that pathway to you too.

Calm yet powerful

In life, we all experience our stormy seas. Whether you’re in a ship or a whale, you’re going to get knocked around. How does the King handle this? He stays calm among the adversity.

You see that firm stone platform. That’s not just physical. He’s able to stay centered and focused when others would otherwise respond with worry, concern or hopelessness. He’s calm yet powerful.

That power is a good reminder to get your house in order. Can you dispose of things both physically and emotionally that aren’t serving you? A fresh start often leads to new opportunities.

By having a stable base, we can stack more bricks. One by one, we eventually have a throne.

The King of Cups reversed has done exactly that.
